OPEN CALL – Residency for Curators

På svenska

Residency for Curators at Konstepidemin in Gothenburg
September 4th through 10th 2017

Konstepidemin in Gothenburg is arranging a residency for curators from the Nordic region. During a few intense days, we are creating a meeting place where the participating curators will put their own practice in perspective and come together and reflect upon the role and expression of the curator. The residency is hosted in conjunction with Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (GIBCA) and GIBCA Extended; including lectures, performances, food, mingles, exhibitions and discussions.

GIBCA’s theme, Secularity, will be discussed in different forms and formats in connection with the residency. Some other areas of focus will be: How is the curator’s role formulated today and what is the future of curating? What is the relationship between curating, society and politics? Beyond art’s ever changing focus, what are the most significant areas of conflict for the curator? How can we develop curatorial practices and, at the same time, stimulate the art scene when external demands are raised in connection with developments within society?

At the beginning of the Residency Week, you will publicly present your past works. During the week, you will further develop your topic of interest, as formulated in your application. At the end of the week, you and representatives from Konstepidemin will organize a workshop around your topic in which you will hold a 15 minute presentation.

The residency is based at the Konstepidemin in Gothenburg but the issues raised during the week are not limited to either local or national perspectives. This provides an opportunity for you, as a curator, to create new contacts and, together with colleagues, reflect upon the role of the curator today.

APPLICATION

Submit your digital application as a PDF to: linda(a)konstepidemin.se
The deadline for application is 6 August.

The discussions during the week will preferably be held in English.
The participants selected will receive travel and accommodation, as well as, a number of meals included in the program. We are not responsible for your other meals.
