Anja Fredell

På svenska

Anja Fredell’s practice moves between surrealist automatism and expressionism, where forms of nature are rendered – more or less abstracted – but never with representation as the goal. In Fredell’s work, the landscape is not depicted as such; rather, it becomes a projection of human sensations, emotions, and subconscious impulses.

In the encounter between the intuitive process and the concrete craft, a dual approach emerges – between the esoteric and the earthly, the subconscious and the physically direct – allowing the viewer to experience both recognition and surprise.

Fredell primarily works with the textile technique of tufting, as well as with painting and ceramics. In 2021, she earned a Master’s degree from HDK-Valand. She exhibits in galleries and art centres and also works with public art. Her works are represented in private as well as public collections, including the Public Art Agency Sweden, the City of Stockholm, and the Västra Götaland Region.
