Jonatan Pihlgren (born 1993) lives and works in Gothenburg. Pihlgren works primarily with painting, but also explores sculpture and performance. In his practice, he portrays the tentative path of human existence as it encounters an often chaotic world.
Jonatan Pihlgren’s artistic work delves into a stark reality filled with ideals and shortcomings. Many of his paintings are personal, rooted in his own life experiences. They depict stories about our contemporary world and everyday life, filled with emotions like warmth, love, anxiety, and worry. Family, friends, and animals emerge in these works, where the real is suddenly interrupted by surrealist impulses. Together, Pihlgren’s pieces create a captivating narrative about art and life.
Pihlgren earned his master’s degree in fine arts from Umeå Academy of Fine Arts in 2021. In 2022, he participated as one of three artists in the exhibition Järtecken at Galleri Verkligheten in Umeå.
