BIO

Johan Lindström was born in Stockholm in 1972 and has been active as a musician, arranger, and producer since the mid-1990s. His extensive list of collaborations includes, among others, Freddie Wadling, Nils Petter Molvær, Sly & Robbie, Susanne Sundfør, Eirik Hegdal (Trondheim Jazz Orchestra), Anna Ternheim, Goran Kajfes, Ane Brun, Totta Näslund, Ebbot Lundberg, Pugh Rogefält, Elvis Costello, Rebecka Törnqvist, Patti Smith, Graveyard, and Edda Magnason.

Lindström gained recognition as a musician in 1999 after playing pedal steel on Per “Texas” Johansson’s jazz album Alla Mina Kompisar. Since 2002, he has run his own studio, where he has developed a unique approach to recording that has made him highly sought after as a producer. After six years of various studio productions, he co-founded, together with Dan Berglund, the four-time Swedish Grammy-winning band Tonbruket, which has released six albums.

In 2018, Johan released his first album under his own name, Johan Lindström Septett – Music for Empty Halls, which received critical acclaim both in Sweden and abroad. The septet’s second album, On the Asylum, won the 2021 Swedish Grammy for Jazz of the Year. As Composer in Residence in 2020 for Norrbotten Big Band, Johan will release a new album with NBB on the Mosierobie label this spring.
