Marja Nurminen graduated from Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm 1994 in painting. She worked as a Junior Lecturer in painting at Konstfack University of College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm 1998 – 2006. Since 2006 she has been Lecturer in Drawing and Painting at Aalto University, School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Finland. She has had 20 solo exhibitions in Gothenburg, Stockholm, Helsinki, Hamburgsund, Mariefred, Åbo, Tampere, Espoo, Karleby and Vaajakoski. She has made four public works in Stockholm and in Helsinki. She works with her doctoral thesis Thinking or Technique: Exploring the Teaching of Drawing in Higher Arts Education.
”I do think that my task is to make art that only I can make. My paintings have made a path from figurative to abstract and back to figurative. Just now I am interested about grids you can find in your everyday life.”
