Jeffrey Wolf

Artist statement

I am a fiction writer who works primarily in the short-story genre. Place, family, poverty, and assimilation are all subjects in my work, but most central of all is memory. Each of us is a walking collection of memories telling stories back to ourselves to make meaning. I am fascinated by families and how their webs of memory and identity ripple across generations, the past ripped constantly into the present. By situating readers deep in the experiences of my characters, I strive to make the mundane luminous and portray the everyday courage of persevering.
