Maria Magnusson is inspired by avant-garde film.

With a focus on moving images, experimental film, and short-form video, she explores how sound colors images and touches upon subjects such as non-material existential states, dreams, the unconscious, memory, identity, and subculture. She connects to an experimental tradition, working with archival film, found footage, sonic findings, animation, 16 mm, and Super 8. The process is important in the creation of her works, and she is interested in the physical and tactile aspects of the medium.
