Marie Holmgren

Marie Holmgren lives and works in Gothenburg and holds a Master’s degree from Valand Academy. With a foundation in painting, she has over recent decades also expanded her practice toward sculptural works and installations.

She has had solo exhibitions at venues such as the Gothenburg Museum of Art, Eskilstuna Art Museum, Härnösand Art Hall, as well as a large number of galleries across the Nordic region. Her work has also been featured in exhibitions at locations including Färgfabriken in Stockholm, Gothenburg Art Hall, Borås Art Museum, Luleå Art Hall, as well as the Cable Factory in Helsinki and Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen. She also works collaboratively in various artistic constellations, such as Sällskapet de Åtta (The Society of the Eight), which conducts performances, seminars, and themed exhibitions.

Marie Holmgren has completed numerous public art commissions for hospitals, schools, quiet rooms, senior residences, and other locations. Here too, she utilizes diverse media such as mosaic, tufting, bronze, and aluminum. Her most recent public commission consists of six reliefs for a building facade in Gothenburg.

She also has an extensive background as an artistic project manager for organizations including Public Art Agency Sweden (Statens konstråd), Stockholm konst, and Göteborg konst. Furthermore, she has held several positions within higher artistic education and served as a Senior Lecturer at HDK – Academy of Design and Crafts, University of Gothenburg.
