Seeking to expand the perception of what we are sensitive to and exploring our nature in relation to the “other,” I approach artistic practice as a series of philosophical-ontological and sensorial exercises in attunement with the “skin of the world.”
To foster such an encounter, I begin by acknowledging the agency of matter and the ways in which we can enter into mutual composition, exchanging effects and affects, or jointly constituting a new body, thereby allowing techniques and media to emerge from a process grounded in reflection, experimentation and the negotiation of agency as acts of”returning the gaze”.
This form of practice has led me to traverse natural and urban landscapes in search of traces of existence and impermanence, to turn my gaze toward what is often deemed “insignificant”, to feed a desire to expand the perception of beauty, to link material affinity with memory and identity, and to blur the boundaries between the living and the inert in pursuit of recognition; confirming that, in the act of transformation, both matter and subject are transformed.
She grew up at the foot of Mount Hercules, Querétaro, which she used to climb with her siblings, returning from each expedition with pockets full of treasures; a practice she has since carried over into various other environments.
Upon turning eighteen, she began traveling alone and immersing herself in the grand project of civilization. Perhaps it was this fascination that led her to study architecture and pursue a master’s degree in Urban Planning, only to later realize her compelling need to study art; consequently moving to the Baltics to pursue a master’s degree in Contemporary Art at the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2018.
Her work—spanning material explorations, multimedia installations, visual poetry, performance art, sculpture and jewelry—has been exhibited in Mexico, Estonia, England, Finland, Lithuania, and Portugal. Interested in how art is produced and shared within a community, Fellow also explores the “event” as a form of contemporary art creating educational and community-based projects centered on co-creation and the revaluation of existing resources.
Alongside her artistic practice, she collaborates periodically as an instructor at the School of Architecture, Art and Design at Tec de Monterrey and as architect and urban planner at Fellowes Studio.
