Pavana Reid

“The question of one’s identity, both as an individual and as a part of a community, is always a lot more complicated than we can imagine. If an identity is what describes who we truly are, then it has to change with us, not just conform to a certain type, or group. As an individual, my way of life, the way I live and what I believe determine who I am, not the idea of what I or other people think of me.
I created my work as an experience with the audience, the relationship between artist and spectator which bring ideas, attitudes and understanding that are unique to each person.”
I am aware of environmental concerns and of global warming, and that is also reflected in how I choose my direction, how my performances and projects are formed. With that in mind I have been using sustainable materials from nature, reused and recycled materials, while I am also growing my own plants for material of my performance art work. I believe that the most important element in performance art is time and for me, to use material from nature or to grow my own is the perfect way to represent time in my performances.
As a member of artist group Performance Art Bergen (PAB), and on its behalf, I have been organising, with two other members of the group, performance art improvisation events: six events per year around Bergen and two events outside Bergen. I am currently initiating “Together Elsewhere” which is a monthly performance series organised by PAB – Performance Art Bergen and PANCH – Performance Art Network Switzerland.

Pavana Reid is born in Khonkaen, Thailand in 1963 and moved to Northern Ireland in1988 during the time of the on-going political trouble.
She began her art education from a night class all the way to a degree in Fine & Applied Art at Ulster University 2006-2009, Belfast, UK.
Pavana made her first public performance at Bbeyond Performance Art Festival, Irish-Polish Exchanges in 2008. Since then she has been participating in many national and international art events.
Pavana has continued to develop her work in performance art, mostly live performance, solo, site specific work, dual, group collaboration and Performance Art related Photography. She is now living in Bergen, Norway. Apart from working on her performances she also initiates, collaborates with and organises art projects where she selects artists to work together under specific themes.
