Kaisu Paavilainen, born in 1965 in Imatra, Finland. Graduated from the painting department of the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 1991 and has exhibited her works since then. The first exhibitions consisted landscape paintings and later on she introduced other techniques in her work like community art projects 2004-2008 in Finland an Russian Carelia together with Anne Siirtola. The project consisted workshops for children and adults and the idea was to compare different kinds of life stiles and different kinds of attitudes towards life. The Eastern border has been significant thing in her life and her art because she comes from that region.
