Open Call – Nordic Match F.I.L 2019

Nordic Match F.I.L

Konstepidemin would like to invite an artist from Iceland or Lithuania for an Artist In Residence and an Exhibition.

We are looking for an artist who is interested in collaboration/communication and to connect with the local art scene in Gothenburg. The selected artist will be accepted for a three month residence and exhibition at Galleri Konstepidemin (with opening in October) along with a local artist.

The local artist will be selected in the way that corresponds with the resident artist practice to establish a close collaboration. The Artist in Resident will be offered a program specially designed for the artist´s needs. This could mean that the artist will make a public presentation/lecture or get studio-visits by curators, artists or other professionals.

AIR Konstepidemin will support one artist from Iceland or Lithuania with a three-month scholarship (15000 SKR/month), travel expenses, studio apartment, some project funding and local networking. The artist will stay in a furnished live-work space at the Konstepidemin cultural centre in central Gothenburg.

Konstepidemin is an artist run organization, which comprises 130 artist´s studios, three galleries, an Artist in Resident, a restaurant and more. Konstepidemin is originally an old Epidemic Hospital built in the late nineteen century, located up on a hill, which creates a calm feeling of isolation from the rest of the city even though it is situated in the central Gothenburg and close to parks, amenities, galleries, museums and just a five minutes walk to Gothenburg’s Botanical Gardens.

Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden located on the west coast with a large university campus, an important harbour, and big industries. The city has a long history of a strong underground music and art scene and artist run galleries. Sadly, Gothenburg is one of Europe’s most segregated cities, which clearly is visible in the art scene. In september 2019 Gothenburg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (GIBCA) will take place.
