Konstepidemin Artist-in-Residence: Everyday Life 2018-19
Visitors are welcome to peruse the artist’s photograph albums in the intimate setting of the live/work studio. Elizabeth’s photographic work, taken over a period of 9 months during her most recent residency, invites questions and reflections from the viewer. What if our everyday experiences and our everyday selves were living art works? What if we were able to more intensely treasure the present – and our presence? What does it mean to accept and embrace our lived experience?
What if our ordinary moments, social encounters, transitions and even mistakes were given more honour?
This project started one warm July day when two small children passed Elizabeth’s balcony, dizzy with the excitement of their Instax Mini instant cameras and snap snapping away. Captivated by their delight, her own ’everyday life’ project was conceived. This project is still developing as she continues to explore the impact of instant shots on individual consciousness, social interaction and the texture of community life.
This project has two rules: No posing. No second shots. While Elizabeth (and her friends) occasionally break these rules, these parameters enable a greater aliveness, movement and texture to the experience of the everyday, and the representation of that experience.
