Seminar

Materia . Messages (in english) • Craft Days 2024

Join us for a seminar where international speakers explore the language of material in art. Featuring Andra Silapétere, Sabine Epple, and Lala de Dios, who will share their insights through lectures. Artist Pitches—brief artistic presentations—will be interspersed throughout. The day concludes with a mingle and a performance by Berith Stennabb. Welcome!

The seminar day will be in English.

Theme: MATERIA as a MESSENGER

The theme ”MATERIA as a MESSENGER” delves into how material communicates, focusing on everyday materials carrying memories. It explores associations and contrasts within objects, emphasizing tactile experiences over verbal communication. There’s a growing interest in material creation, evident in artists’ practices and public engagement with crafts, handmade items, and design. This trend may stem from a response to our digital world or a protest against AI. Ultimately, we communicate through material, employing a silent language.

FLAX TIME

The material flax is chosen with great care. It is one of the oldest cultivated plants and has a history parallel to that of humans. The human being, basically the same now as several thousand years ago; who is carrying the same fears and needs. Flax was thought to have healing properties, as well as cleansing properties and was frequently used in rituals and represented an important quality in different parts of the world. Flax is talking about a human commonality across both geographical and temporal distance.

ANOMICHOLISTIC

An artistic project that lives on in various environments, settings and performative work. The word Anomicholistic is a made up word from two existing words – Anomic = Socially unstable, alienated, and disorganized + Holistic = Emphasizing the importance of the whole and the interdependence of its parts.
