Asami Togawa

The materials with which to create art are not limited to everyday materials, but extend to historically important memorials and even geographical landscapes. This has allowed me to explore many unique opportunities when creating my work. My main mediums are sculpture, collage, and installations, focusing mainly on sculpture. But what is sculpture? This is a very old question in the art world, one that serves as my main motivation. Pursuing my answer to this question exposed me to collage. I find collage interesting as it allows for a mixing of different periods of time and history behind its meaning. This is also the case for sculpture. Through my art, I want my audience to become aware of the things that we interact with unconsciously every day. It should serve to provoke different reactions and notice the little absurdities one finds in day to day objects.
