After 1999 and 2003 (at klippans kulturreservat) I would like to do an artistic research in Gothenburg again. The attraction of the Northern European printmaking scene led me to this city, where I worked on graphics in an empty studio at the harbor during the summer of 1999. The inspiring tension between city, and nature, the enrichment by the hardly dark nights, as well as the liberating exam in the printing workshop are characteristics of this time. During the two-month stay at Konstepidemin, I will continue with these language and graphic experiments. Whatever the visual impetus may be: a word, a landscape, a figure, a network, a Swedish street – the exploration of the linear between the feeling and the trace should be the main topic. Working with the woodcut requires planning and strategy, but different conditions can be created, the ultimate goal of which is not the printing block (or the edition), but the printing process. The picture is the result, the sum of the steps and stages. It is based on the possibility of shaping, the resulting image lives from transformations and also represents them. Last but not least, the associated motifs, sometimes standing alone, sometimes playfully combined, combine the series of woodcuts. Forays into the city and the landscape are the outer replication of the graphic explorations in the workshop, they help fill the inner storage, and at the same time ”they can give memories for life”, as Erik Beckman writes.
