Bettina Køppe, Danmark
Køppe Contemporary Objects is a gallery and presentation platform for sculptural objects at the intersection of art and crafts. Køppe Contemporary Objects was founded by architect Bettina Køppe, who has extensive experience as a gallery-owner and curator in the field of craft objects.
“In my gallery and curation work the trend has shifted, due to the widespread alienation in relation to the production of everyday utilitarian objects and the processing of materials. A new craft wave is manifesting itself. In this latest development, the emphasis is on craftsmanship, material properties and meanings. Meanwhile, basic knowledge of materials has been all but unlearned and forgotten.
I am currently working closely with a group of artists who share an interest in the inherent possibilities of materials and the historical qualities associated with traditional crafts and techniques. The artists have a shared passion for exploring the meaning of objects in relation to function and iconography and based on the qualitative uniqueness of the material. Another common feature of their work is their focus on combining tradition with interpretation and experimentation to create works that hold contemporary relevance.”
Evelina Hedin, Sverige
As manager of Gustavsbergs Konsthall, a venue specialized in contemporary craft, Evelina Hedin is interested in exploring ways in which the craft field can expand. For artists, craft people and theorists as well as a general public. Evelina has a background in art pedagogy and working with exhibitions in relation to learning programs, knowledge production, collectivity and platforms for discussions and critique. She will talk about some issues regarding exhibition production and curating that are specific for the field of craft, and might become even more so in the future.
