Lecture: Sandra Sterle

Sandra Sterle (born in 1965 in Zadar, Croatia) is a visual artist who works with film, installation, interventions, photography and performance. Currently she is associate professor of performance and video at the Arts Academy in Split. Sandra Sterle applies different strategies and exhibiting formats in her work; often starting with the performative act or staging in front of the camera she develops scripts for films and derive impulses for performative work from her personal experiences and the environment that surrounds her. In the process of creating work she uses the concept of archetypes, also analyzing the nature of remembering and memories, both personal and collective.

Participating Artists in Residence

Karo Akpokiere

Karo Akpokiere’s work focuses on fusing experiences and observations gotten from the minutiae of everyday living with his interests in the visual and written aspects of popular culture. His work blurs the line between fine art and graphic design; it can be political, social, humorous and anything else it wants to be. Akpokiere’s work is marked by the embrace of a spontaneous and where necessary, a research based approach. His work is an exercise in progress and self-discovery, always changing as new interests and attitudes are formed.

 Lisa Marr and Paolo Davanzo

Lisa Marr and Paolo Davanzo are filmmakers, educators and community cinema activists whose work is a catalyst for creative collaboration and positive social change. Originally from Canada and Italy respectively, they currently live and work in Los Angeles where they run the Echo Park Film Center, a non-profit neighborhood media arts center with a focus on analog film education and resources. In 2008, they launched the EPFC Filmmobile, an old schoolbus transformed into an eco-friendly cinema and film school on wheels. As The Here & Now, Marr and Davanzo travel the world, bringing handmade movies and music to the masses.
