Artist statement
Ljiljana Maletin Vojvodić is a writer, artist, and scholar based in Novi Sad, ECoC 2022. Her work covers literature and visual art. She has a Master’s degree in Literature and has written acclaimed novels, research books, and artist’s books. Her artistic journey takes her around the world, where she writes or exhibits in Serbia and internationally, and participates in artist-in-residence or research projects from Norway to Japan..
During her residency at Konstepidemin, she continues her project, ”A Woman Artist’s Room of One’s Own” exploring the spaces where women create. From studios to libraries, she delves into how these spaces shape female artists’ identities, echoing Virginia Woolf’s idea of a ”room of one’s own”. Apart from creating art, Ljiljana is the editor-in-chief of the Art Box portal. She’s keen on supporting women in art and bringing people together to create. Additionally, she investigates how art reflects society and stereotypes.
Ljiljana Maletin Vojvodić graduated from the Department of Literature (Faculty of Philosophy, Novi Sad). She is the author of novels, image studies, anthologies, and artist’s books: A Woman Artist’s ”Room of One’s Own” (2023), How to Understand Contemporary Art Practice (2023), Farsickness / Homesickness / Homelessness #Meaning of Home_2022 (2022), How to Understand New Art Practice (2021), Skrik (2020), ”Post-Nora” Art(ist) (2020), Those Who Eat Raw Meat (2016), Vanishing Home (2016), Instruction as Writings (2016), etc.
She has participated in art residency projects in Iceland and Greenland, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Estonia, and Latvia, and research projects in Tokyo, New York, Paris, and Pristina.
Ljiljana was rewarded with “The Andra Gavrilović”, “Milutin Uskoković” and “Ulaznica” Awards, as well as a scholarship for writers from the Western Balkans (Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs); a grant from the Norwegian agency NORLA; the Novi Sad ECoC 2022 Awards, EU Japan Fest Committee (Tokyo), etc.
Her work has been exhibited in various exhibitions, including “Mobility, Home and Belonging” / “The Politics of Postmigration,” curated by Hélène Ducros for EuropeNow at the Council for European Studies (CES) held at Columbia University, USA (2023), Farcicknes/Homesickness/Homelessness, supported by Novi Sad ECoC 2022, etc. She was a co-editor for Evrovizion—Novi Sad Crossing Stories magazine (2023), published by Ifa in Germany, etc.
