STATUS – Artistic Practice and Social Change
Konstepidemin presents the project STATUS – The role of the Artist in Changing of Society, a collaboration with an independent cultural space Kryly Khalopa in Brest, Belarus. The project started in 2017. During these years artists from Belarus and Sweden have been working together on investigating three selected topics: Hidden life, (non) work and Heritagization. January 9-12 these investigations alongside with related art works will be presented in Gothenburg and in Gerlesborg. Among presented works there will be also contributions by the artists specially invited for their connection to the theme.
The program goes under the title STATUS – Artistic Practice and Social Change in the form of an exhibition, a lecture, a book release, an artist talk and a City Walk. It will take place at the Gallery Konstepidemin, at Ångpannegatans Processer (Backaplan) and at Gerlesborgsskolan in Bohuslän.
The title is taken from the publication made within the project STATUS. With these presentations, we want to create a conversation about the artist’s role in society, report on the project and show a glimpse of fantastic artists, their research and collaborations.

Konstepidemin presenterar projektet STATUS – The role of the Artist in Changing of Society, ett samarbete med organisationen Kryly Chalopa i Brest, Belarus. I projektet som inleddes 2017 har konstnärer från Sverige och Belarus arbetat tillsammans och på olika sätt undersökt tre ämnen: Hidden life, (non) work och Heritagization. Den 9-12 januari kommer några av de kollektiva undersökningar och verk som skapats inom projektet men också verk av konstnärer speciellt inbjudna för deras koppling till tematiken att presenteras i Göteborg och Bohuslän. Detta under titeln STATUS – Artistic Practice and Social Change och i form av utställning, föreläsning, artist talk och City Walk på Galleri Konstepidemin, Ångpannegatans Processer samt på Gerlesborgsskolan Bohuslän.
Titeln på utställningen är hämtad från den publikation som gjorts inom projektet STATUS som med dess namn och innehåll ringar in utställningen. Vi vill med presentationerna skapa ett samtal om konstnärens roll i samhället, redovisa projektet samt visa en glimt av fantastiska konstnärskap, forskning och samarbeten.
